"Adam" is a 7 year old boy who was physically and sexually abused and neglected by his parents. He was removed from their custody and placed in foster care. Adam was removed from several foster homes due to explosive fits of aggression and tantrums. At Looking Glass, he received both individual therapy and skill-building training in the home and school. After one year of intensive services, Adam has been able to demonstrate the ability for secure attachment and is able to handle strong emotions and past trauma in healthy ways. Adam has made so much progress that he has been moved onto the adoptable list and is waiting for his forever home.

"Paula’s" childhood was traumatic – filled with periods of homelessness and neglect – and years later she continued to experience anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms. At seventeen, she was camping with friends but without a regular place to sleep, shower, and meet her basic needs, she struggled to stay enrolled in school. When she arrived at Station 7, she was reluctant to access overnight shelter services but decided to stay after talking with staff about her goals. She was determined to take control of her health and living situation so that she could complete her education. With Looking Glass’ help, Paula received counseling, learned fiscal responsibility, and applied for jobs – all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She now has her own apartment and will graduate from high school next year.

When "Luke" first came to Looking Glass, he was failing in school, being abusive toward his young siblings, and running away from home. In addition to providing a safe place for Luke to stay, Looking Glass worked with his family to get him mental health appointments and to school. Luke recently started high school and has shown improvements in his mental health and behavior at home. His parents report that now, there are “more good days than bad.”
