Counseling Resource Pantry Expands to 3 Locations

Looking Glass staff from the West Eugene Counseling Program show off their own, newly added resource pantry for clients.

The resource pantry, which offers food, basic hygiene items and clothing to clients of Looking Glass Counseling Program, has expanded from the original location at 11th and High street in Eugene to additional locations at the Springfield and West Eugene counseling offices. This expansion was made possible by new grant funding provided by Lane Community Health Council, the Coquille Tribal Community Fund and the IMA Foundation.

“Our resource pantry has been essential for many of our clients,” explained Looking Glass Counseling Program Director Carlyn Wierda. “When basic needs aren’t met, such as having enough food, it becomes very difficult to focus on anything else, and it negatively impacts mental health. By offering these resources, we are supporting clients and their families as a whole, which allows them to be better able to focus on the mental health goals they are coming to counseling for.”

Since the expansion, the program has been able to increase the number of clients served with these basic needs and resources from roughly 45 per month to over 130 per month.

Even with the additional funds and resources available for this program, Counseling staff can always use more items and support for this program. If anyone wants to donate non-perishable food items, hygiene items or funds for these resource pantries, please contact Development Director Tyler Mack at tyler.mack@lookingglass.us.
