Looking Glass staff members help setup and celebrate Pride Fest at Riverfront School on Friday, June 6, 2025.
In celebration of national PRIDE month (June), Riverfront School put together an event, dubbed Pride Fest, that was held in the school parking lot on Friday, June 6th.
“The LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Plan Grant (awarded by the Oregon Department of Education) gave our Looking Glass students and education staff the opportunity to plan and host "PRIDE FEST 2025" at our Riverfront High School, said Director of Inpatient and Homeless Education Ben Molin. “Being able to host this Pride event helps foster visibility and acceptance for our LGBTQ+ students. It creates a safe space to celebrate inclusivity and diversity in our local educational system. We look forward next year's PRIDE FEST!”
Staff from several area resources were able to provide information at this event including from SASS and Hoots.
The event included various outside agencies providing resources and information as well as a number of student-run booths applying temporary tattoos, hair tinsel, buttons and more. In addition, food trucks were on-site including MBOSQ taco truck and Kona Shave Ice.
The event had several booths offering a variety of resources and fun activities, including a free clothing exchange.
“We thought PRIDE Fest would be a great way to celebrate the amazing LGBTQIA+ community here,” said Riverfront School Education Supervisor Marielle Hart. “We want our staff and students to know they are seen, heard, welcomed, and celebrated at Looking Glass. Staff, students, and community partners provided information and resources and shared their art and various talents. We believe events like this promote inclusivity, empathy, and respect for all. It's also a great way to meet people and learn something new!”
Thank you to all the amazing staff and students who helped pull this event off! Staff look forward to holding a 2nd annual event next June and inviting more community members as well!
